 May 16th...The Willis Worship Band

This contemporary Christian music trio consists of a mother and her sons.  Jane Willis, a local favorite who once sang as a jazz singer with the Dick Goodwin Band, clearly brought her boys up right.  Joining her, fully focused, and having an eye on becoming ministers, sons, Jake and Luke provide the instrumentation for Jane, along with harmonies and lead vocals.  A great sound combined original arrangements and songs, it's no wonder The Willis Worship Band draws a crowd wherever they play!

April 25 it was Jim LeBlanc!

Jim is a Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist/sometimes harmonica player who has entertained the good folks of Columbia, South Carolina and beyond for over 25 years. Now he’s bringing his musical talent to the WLXM studio. Jim remains a local favorite…we found out why, In The Studio-Live & Local.

Here are some of our recent guests...

Prettier Than Matt

This two man, er, woman and man, group is comprised of Jessica Skinner and Jeff Pitts. Their sound has been said to lend to a sound somewhat like Allison Kraus and Robert Plant.
Here’s a self-described quote from their ReverbNation page: “We pride ourselves on being cool enough for the edgy and sweet enough for the sensitive. Become a fan now, because if you’re trying to fight it, we will eventually catch up with you. Welcome aboard.”-Prettier Than Matt

Hayden Wieczorek

Raw, untapped talent. That’s the best description for Hayden Wieczorek and his work. Hayden is a student at Gilbert High School where he sings in the chorus. His early musical inspiration came from listening to Johnny Cash. He touts a similar deep, gutsy voice and is also drawn to South Carolina’s own Josh Turner.
On his visit to the studio, Hayden performed both a Johnny Cash tune, as well as a Josh Turner hit song. He closed out with an original tune called “Home”.
There is no doubt Hayden Wieczorek will enjoy many years honing his craft.

J. Edwards

A three time veteran of In The Studio, J. Edwards has
a deep, rich, gutsy, soulful voice. J. recently competed
in Memphis in the 28th Annual International Blues Challenge,
representing the state of South Carolina after winning in
the Low Country competition. Original songwriting works
well for J. Edwards.

Vince McKinley Band

Vince McKinley is an acoustic guitarist, singer and songwriter based out of Columbia, SC. He is joined by Dave Winterstein on drums and Rick Fogle on bass. The band released their first CD in June 2010 called Headroom. A few major influences include artists such as Monte Montgomery, Dave Mathews, Alice In Chains, Ani DiFranco. When they performed in the WLXM studio, the sound was reminiscent of Rush. The original music in their repertoire is top shelf! More on the band at: www.reverbnation.com/vincemckinley

Fingerprint

Putting their “fingerprint” on everything they play, Barry Dockery, Bob, Conn, and Stan Cecil comprise this Classic Rock bad, Fingerprint. Cover songs as well as original work, it all sounded great, a big, big sound from this three man band. Check them out at: www.reverbnation.com/ourfingerprint

Leon Nelson

Many listeners may recall Leon Nelson from his
days at Aun's Feed Stable.  He wowed 'em
with his original music and had callers checking
in from all over the globe! Leon is a seasoned professional
in the music biz and we were pleased to have him "in the studio"!
